Our vision is to empower learners to actively participate in shaping the future of the kelp industry, drawing inspiration and knowledge from industry professionals themselves, fostering critical thinking and environmental awareness in learners of all ages, and ultimately creating a vibrant community of learners and experts.

We want to encourage students and educators to engage with the full spectrum of the industry, delving into end-uses, challenges, economic and environmental benefits, and career pathways by providing support, answering your questions, and connecting you with experts in the field.

Drawing upon the founder’s extensive background in education, Lazy Point Farms has designed a flexible kelp curriculum intended to foster critical thinking and environmental awareness in learners of all ages with structured lesson plans that can be easily modified to fit the needs of students from grades 3 through 12. William Floyd High School receives supplies from Lazy Point Farms for Giving Tuesday!

Mrs. Huff's Nutritional Science class and Environmental Science Club have been teaming up to help bring awareness to fresh local food in the Mastic Beach area. They have been composting in the classroom and providing fresh greens to students and staff with their grow towers. Thanks to $200 of supplies provided by Lazy Point Farms to support work in the classroom, they will be starting native plant seeds in their greenhouse in hopes to make pollinator friendly gardens around the school.

Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club Members Learn About Growing Kelp!

Leo Imperial and Dave Gugerty, two local growers are committed to their role as community leaders. This year the two have partnered with the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club to develop an educational program around kelp farming and water quality and are mentoring local kids interested in the science of aquaculture. Boys & Girls Club Keystone Club members recently conducted a kelp check and salinity/water temp reading at Bayville Creek Marina with Leo and Dave’s guidance.

Kelp in place of leather?

Parsons student Margot Wester wants to use kelp in place of leather to produce a series of sustainable bags, and contacted us for assistance. We’re excited to see the final project!
